In 1978, at age 21, I struck out Reggie Jackson with two on and two out in the ninth to have my Dodger team take a 2 game to zero lead in the WS. I later won a Cy Young award for another California team in 1990 winning 27 games to tie Steve Carlton's 1972 record number of wins. Who am I?

I posted it because I read the obit, too. Even though he was from Mich., Bob Welsh played all 17 yrs. on the west coast. 1978-1994. Then he was a pitching coach for years in MLB. He was only 57 years old when he died. They don't know why yet.

Well, the time frame matches up with Don Sutton. I think he made the HOF, but I doubt he ever had a single season that good. I think Sutton was older than that. Maybe Fernando Valenzuela. Maybe Orel Hershiser. Good Question Dave, I should know this one, but don't. Didn't Dizzy Dean win 30 plus for the Cardinals back in the day? Dizzy Dean won 30 games in 1934. But he was hit on the mound and broke his toe. It messed up his mechanics and he was never that good anymore. Between the ages of 23 and 27, he was arguably the best pitcher in baseball; by 28, he was just another pitcher, and at 31 he was done.

Your post about Phyllis Diller reminded me of another briefly popular comedian from my youth, Flip Wilson. Flip would dress in drag playing a character known as ..........who? (looking for the correct female name) For bonus points what was this woman's boyfriend's name? Flip played a charactor named "Geraldine" and her boy friend's name was "Killer".

If my memory serves me, I think he might have ended up pitching in Hawaii. He loved baseball and back then pitchers went the route. Used to love watching him pitch, not throw. He knew what he was doing on the mound.

I got to see a great knuckleball pitcher named Charlie Hough. He still may hold the records for wins w/ the Texas Rangers. I love the knuckleball pitchers. The great ones can throw them for strikes and win games. The bad ones get on the first bus back home...... ("They can get jobs at the "Great Jobs store". It is right next to "The Pie in the Sky Office"."-Red from That 70's show.

Here's a tough one, I got this a long time ago out of a trivia book and I think it still holds true. Who is the only 3-time college basketball player all-American to decrease his shot attempts from his soph year, to his jr year. and to his senior year, yet increased his scoring average each of those years. He also led the team in scoring each year. Big hint, freshman couldn't play and please don't guess the obvious by picking that famous player from UCLA. This is tough and will take an old timer to get it.

Not even close FOT, honestly do you think the pistol shot less as his career advanced? lol This one is tough. Don't look west of the Mississippi.

Good guess, but the guy had to have decreased his shot attempts each year in also increase his scoring average. But MM you are ever so close. But please don't pick George Wilson of Chicago Marshall. And no it wasn't Jerry West, he wasn't about to give his teammates more shots, they couldn't shoot.

Lessen learned, never take the books at their word. I did and it was false. My answer was Jerry Lucas, Ohio State. He did reduce his attempts but his scoring average dipped. Hmmmmm, maybe that's the reason his team didn't win the championship past his sophomore year. Sorry guys to have you scratching your heads over a phony question. I'll try harder the next time.
