It is very rare I mail anything out so makes no difference to me. Pay all my utilities at Shaw, other stuff online. Maybe a few cards at christmas is all.

some $1, others none. yes, I know that's more than a stamp, but I also do not use a checking account so I would have to go pay more to get money order so it ends up costing more. Plus, my payments do not get lost in the mail. Last time that happened is when I stopped using checking accounts. I had mailed a payment to com ed. They didn't get it. So I sent another check and they assured me that when the first check showed up they would not cash it and would return it to me. Of course that didn't happen, it showed, they cashed and cost me $$$ when it caused my account to go into insufficient funds on several other checks. I know, I should have done a stop payment on it. Lesson was learned in both ways. I just find it easier to pay at Shaws and I have the receipt to prove my payment went through.

No, you don't have to send your cards now, but you need to buy your stamps now. A "forever" stamp you buy today at .46 will still allow you to mail a letter in the future, even if the postal rate is higher. Heck, buying stamps before the rate goes up would in essence be like putting your money in a savings account that is paying 6+%. You cant get that type of ROI from a simple bank savings account. I don't even think you can get that kind of return on a savings bond.

we hardly mail anything. everything is being paid electronically now. I still pay the utility bills by check. I think this new policy will put me over the edge & I'll just start paying my bills electronically. I doubt if I am alone on this idea. This policy could really backfire. Dropping Sat. delivery and charging the junk mail people the same as 1st class, may be a better way to save money

49 cents to send something from Streator to wherever.
How much would it cost to drive it there? Drive it from the north side of Streator to the south side? Drive it from Streator to Chicago? Streator to San Diego?
49 cents is still cheap, very cheap!

the letter I mail from my house across town to Streator seems very expensive to me oldtimer. the letter goes from Streator to Bloomington to be sorted, postmarked and then sent back to Streator to be delivered. how much fuel and man hours are being expended for that .49 cent letter? now you know why the US postal service needs to raise stamps every three months.

The problem isn't with sending letters to Bloomington to be sorted, the problem is there isn't the mail volume anymore. Its time for the government to get out of the business of delivering stuff. Turn it over to fed ex, ups and anyone who wants to try. Home mail delivery is going the way of the piny express and the wells Fargo wagon. Its not needed anymore.

Yeah well try "bartering" with eBay customers who are PO'ed regarding what shipping fees are to them, especially International buyers.........oiy! Case in point I had a customer and potential buyer who wanted to buy a rather large item and to ship that out to him the CHEAPEST rate, mind you..........would have cost him $750.00..................... I get everyone's beef here......but try to run a business with shipping of parcels all over the world then perhaps you'd have a rant? M

The big Government does not want people to have free enterprise (when will people ever get it)?
