And yet still not a word about utilizing project Exile, a program instituted while Rahm was a WH employee of Clinton. Quite progressive these Democrats, blood for gun control. Truth be told, if the National Guard and/or State Police dont go in an make arrests, get convictions, and utilize programs such as project Exile, I would rather they not do anything at all. A show of force without any enforcement, will just make them scatter like roaches. My fear is if they do scatter, they will scatter to places like Streator, and then we will deal with that crap here.

What is project Exile Sniper? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_ExileEssentially you Federalize gun convictions, minimum 5 year sentence, and then you get the offender away from his home area, no "slaps" on the wrist like for instance the offenders who just shot 13 the other night............ Under Exile, they would have been securely locked away for at least 5 years. No deals, no early release. It makes them think long and hard before picking up a gun.

Sniper, Doesn't "Project Exile" only apply to FELONS being in possession to weapons? Even the shooting in the "Back of the Yard" park by gang members, does not mean Project Exile would apply, does it? Let's not create better laws to keep guns out of the hands of gang members before they use that AK-47 on a 3 year old though. right? g

I think it is an automatic 5 year term for being convicted of a gun crime and it is doubled to 10 years if you are a felon convicted of a gun crime. I borrowed this from Wikipedia: Project Exile was a federal program started in Richmond, Virginia in 1997. Project Exile shifted the prosecution of illegal technical gun possession offenses to federal court, where they carried a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison under the federal Gun Control Act of 1968, rather than in state court. Note that federal law (18 U.S.C. sec. 922 & 924) provides for a penalty of ten years in federal prison for being a "prohibited person" i.e. a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, as well as for falsifying information in order to obtain one, or furnishing a gun to a convicted felon

They might be able to carry legally in the future in Chicago, but somehow I don't think there are too many that will make it to age 21 in the gangs without being a felon already...... Next? BTW, how about laying your "reasonable" laws to keep illegal AK47's out of the hands of gang bangers? This ought to be a hoot.

It is easy to find all kinds of misinformation out there, after all Liberals post things too. 1.) It is ILLEGAL TO POSSESS AN AK47 in CHICAGO........ Period. 2.) While project exile has questionable results in decreasing violent gun crime, I can see one great advantage to using it in conjunction with calling in the guard. If all these gang bangers are sent to fed prison for 5-10 years, look how much illinois will save on housing them!!
Let the guard do a sweep through both hoods, round them up and ship them off!!

While project exile has questionable results in decreasing violent gun crime, HC, where do you get your information? From the House Judiciary committee. judiciary.house.gov/legacy/earlatt.htmCONCLUSION
It is not an exaggeration to say that armed criminals can and do terrorize our cities. Senseless violence tears at the very fiber of our community, and we cannot allow that to continue. We must deal with these criminals swiftly and firmly, so that our citizens can return to a level of normalcy, where decent, law-abiding people can live, work, and most importantly raise this nation’s next generation of young adults.
However, federal prosecutions alone cannot put an end to the tragedy of violence in our cities. A sustained and comprehensive community effort is critical to our ultimate success. With Virginia Exile and the leadership of community-based organizations, such as those mentioned above, and with the support of those living in the community, we can overcome both the cause and the effect of the unbridled and unprecedented violence we have all seen.
While Project Exile is only be part of the solution, it can send and enforce a very important message to the criminal element: an illegal gun will get you five years in prison; there will be no bond, no deal, no parole. There will only be prison.
This is a proven strategy, and it is making a difference.

Ok, I see that study now, the only issue I have with it is they focus on a one year time frame when a program like this needs to be studied over a much larger time to establish real trends.

My point wasn't to disagree with PE, as I feel doing anything is better than doing nothing. And the percentage did go down. my point was the best part, was we alone wouldn't be footing the bill as a federal program. gang problems are nation wide. not just in Chicago, illinois.
