I saw a sign in the window of the old Citizen Loan Building / Bicycle Shop across the street on Monroe Street stating: "Mark's Convenience Store - Opening Soon" I asked some of the Post Office employees about it and they told me that the store will have bread, milk, etc. and possibly liquor sold there. Now, whomever this Mark is I do wish him all the best of luck in his new business endeavors, and I am also glad to see yet another vacant building downtown none the less being made useful yet again. This store will really be a convenience to me living in the 300 block of South Monroe..and also I read in the City Council's past meeting that they are considering opening up the 100 and 200 south blocks of Monroe and Vermillion Street.......back to two way traffic. I say.........YES ........please do it!!! M

Yes, it will be convenient for me too. I posted about it on another thread.
It was Mr. Hart that brought up converting those to two way streets. They said that it was being looked at as part of the new comprehensive plan. It sounds like there is considerable expense to make the change, six digits per intersection.

Oh, I didn't know anything was posted about this new store...but I am glad to see that building being utilized. I didn't read the co$t involved with making the transition back to two way on these streets. Maybe someone can explain what the break down of such an expense is, and why? Whhoooaaaa............... M

So...just put up stop SIGNS and not traffic lights..I think that would be more cost effective...and make sense, right ? M

It involves a State Hwy. Notice they word state, that makes it cost a lot more. Did you hear about the capital doors?

Stops signs coming from one direction while the other 3 corners of the intersection have a traffic light makes no sense. Neither does 4 stop signs.

Chenoa had an IGA for ...ever. It closed several years ago & now people have to go to Pontiac for groceries. Sad thing.

That little store in Fairbury is Dave's. A few times a year they have a meat sale and I will make the trip just for that. If you go there try their ham salad. It is the best I have had. Their bakery department selection is unmatched too. I love that store.

Also across the street next to the Monroe Tap...I noticed that the old Hart building is now occupied with McMullen Insurance. The building has been cleaned up and painted, potted plants adorn the front door entrance.......and it looks so nice! M

What a relief, I have been so worried that there just aren't enough places for people to buy liquor here.

Would you prefer a vacant storefront?
