I'm taking about the candidates forum in 2011. Here is the quote from the times - Benner stated the economic development efforts in place are working, with the addition of 500 jobs through Walmart, Results, Inc. and wind farms. " You don't "think" I've been To every meeting you've had? Wouldn't you know who was there and who wasn't? Lol You are correct, though, I haven't been in all the meetings that you have had. I've been to most of the council meetings since 2011. I only personally have heard the quote I posted above. At that same forum, I believe Mr. Hart, getting the same question after him, also said that he agreed with the previous candidate on that. I have talked with City leaders many times about economic development. My conclusion is, as I have been stating, we need a change in our City administration.

Kyle, Fine, your conclusion is "we need a change in our City adminstration." Run, Kyle, Run! Clean up the "Corrupt " City Council.. Run, Kyle, Run! Watch the old movie, perhaps you have the movie on tape, 'WALKING TALL". Run, Kyle, Run! I'll sign your petition to run for the City Council. What would you "whine" about should you lose? g Oh, Kyle, should you lose in the election, who could you blame for the failure. g

Aquaponics aside, I am just trying to figure out what other golden opportunites have slipped thru Streator's fingers, due to their unfriendly business attitude. Other than your personal experience, do you have any factual information of businesses refusing to come here either due to our current city leaders or our supposed violent reputation?

I think with his passion and a good dose of reality from being in the "other guys shoes" he would make a good community leader. Dang Greek, this seems weird. Agreeing with you too much. Maybe you should hop over to the P&R section and slam one of my posts.

Idk if the city is to blame or the realtors . Homes valued at $60,000 selling for $26,000?
Sounds like this town is trying to replace the whites with all minorities. Noticing a lot more immigrants and minorities living here then there were 10yrs ago?
Wished I had a good paying job to be able to afford to move to the country, when your only neighbors live 2 miles down the road and not next to you.

Minorities flock to the cities where drugs and crime are not prosecuted. What caucasian family would want to spend large amounts of money on a dwelling and have section 8 lowlifes living next to them. Where do all these afro americans work at that prowl the streets of Streator. I cannot think of more than 3.

I'd like to shake their hand, you know those "AFRO AMERICAN" working at those THREE PLACES IN STEATOR! g

Let ma add a few points.
Lord knows I am not a lover of the Streator ruling clique, I have at times been pretty outspoken at how ineffective they can be.
That being said, they were just here, and they were genuinely interested in how they could help us retain, or expand our business.
It isn't STREATOR, it is the STATE. I am having to examine the cost of doing business here versus another state, and to be brutally honest? I am not sure I can in good faith say we should not move. If you look at things such as utilities, taxation, Workman's Comp,Unemployment insurance, Income taxes, etc, and see the trend line for expenses rising in this state, it makes it dammed tough to say "we might as well stay here".
Until this state realizes that they cannot continue bleeding the hen laying the golden eggs, more of them are going to find a new hen house.
While I celebrate all those retail establishments coming to this town, they do NOT produce enough to create a long term, stable family life that we so desperately need to stabilize this town.
The next thing is, we must have workers who can fill these manufacturing jobs, and I hate to say it, there are woefully few who have the work ethic to fill those jobs, by ethic I do not necessarily mean hard work, I also mean things as simple as staying the heck off of drugs......... When local employers have you do the drug test before they bother talking to you because they have wasted so much time and effort to only lose it to a failed drug test, it has to tell you something.

Sniper, What business do you "run" or own in Steator? I thought you were an employee of a Corporation, am I wrong or not? Family values, I would not believe are dependent upon State or Local taxes. Family values are independent of income or taxes. IMO Family Values are established by the "family unit". "A stable family life" IS NOT CREATED BY AN EMPLOYER, Yes indeed we need to have "WELL PAYING " jobs coming to Streator. Sniper, I believe the crux of the matter is A WORK ETHIC, and reinforced by the Parents also instilling the value of Education. Getting a H.S. diploma is a start. Having a degree, as a what, "Engineer"; don't tell me you would hire someone without the math skills to do the job requiments needed. That requires education, doesn't it? The "Three Legged Stool", you used to talk about, at least in my opinion is about. 1. Family Values. 2. Work Ethic 3. The Value of Education. None of those are dictated by Government are they? g
