You are not the only one with plenty of tomatoes. They are turning red as fast as I am canning them and eating them. It's that time of year that when you see people instead of shaking their hands your handing over tomatoes. LOL

I might try to make pizza sauce with ours and actually make home made pizza dough and use green peppers also out of our garden.

Maybe Streator should have tomato fights.

For those of us who didn't plant a garden, this is a delightful way to say farewell to summer. So many delicious meals from the overabundance of our friends little garden!

Maybe Streator needs to start a victory garden next year. A lot of empty lots that could be used. That could be a project that FFA and 4-h clubs could start.

And lord knows that there are plenty of needy family and people in this town to be able to start a victory garden. Or maybe use that type of a garden for a soup house.

Those are some really great ideas Emachine. But, as has been pointed out to us recently, projects, such as these, have to be headed by determined folks who have the time and energy to make them happen. Our neighbor just knocked on our door to tell us the grapes are ripe. Hopefully we will make some grape jelly! They grow beautifully in their yard, but they haven't the energy to mess with them, so Mr R picks & then we make jelly to share with the growers:-)

I saw a CNN hero, the other day. He grows food and delivers it an passes it out, at the food pantry. I can't remember where, but he brings out kids from the city, to pick fruits and veggies. He said, kids are amazed, things grow out of the ground.
