Does anyone know the story on Lentman Lake south of town? Is it private property?

I had never heard of Lentman Lake so I Google Earthed it and it is as I suspected, I 'm wondering who named it...? Anyhow the lake is private it is known to many as "Old Lazy Acres" rumors are there are 6' catfish in there..... It is owned by the water company and is Streator's reservoir holding water diverted from the Vermillion.
When I was a kid the YMCA had a day camp by the vermillion just about under the current bridge. One day at camp we all took a hike to the then open pit, the lake is the pit left by the Barr brick company after extracting the clay. When we hiked around the lake I saw a drag line crane sitting in the bottom of the east side of the not yet completely flooded lake, I'm guessing the boom was about 40 feet tall. I was back there in the late 80's early 90's and the is nothing but dark deep water over it now.

I heard the stories about the catfish being huge bigger than men, and the crane the story I heard is when they were digging the pit they hit a natural spring and there wasn't time to get the crane out of there and the pit filled with water. There has also been stories of a couple of people drowning out there, I never knew it as Lentman Lake it was always known as Old Lazy Acres, use to cross the Vermillion behind Katchewan Lakes and go back in there catch sunfish, crappie, huge catfish boy the good ol days sneaking in there with my Dad and Brothers.

That lake has been almost pumped completely dry a few times in the past 10 years. The water company uses this water to control different particle levels in the water supply. When levels are elevated in the Vermilion River, they utilize the resevoir. The lake is mostly full of potato chip sized bluegills now.

IDK........ I have always heard the same thing Harley was saying.
TomTurkey is there something you know of we can read somewhere that tells us what is BS and what isn't.
I have heard it called Lentmans lake before also. I think it was called that because it is or was on there property at one time.

Over the years I've also heard stories about how deep the ponds at Katchawon are and stories of flooded buildings, heavy equipment,etc.. A few years ago the owners allowed me access with my jon boat and I checked the depth for them..The old swimming pond was the deepest at less than 10' in the center.. For comparison to a 6' catfish, the world record 124# blue catfish only measured out at 58" Seems like every power plant lake there's stories of catfish bigger then men that are stuck in the intake grates but yet nobody has brought 1 to surface or caught 1 www.snopes.com/critters/lurkers/catfish.asp

There was an airport on Lentman's property also, just along the south bank of the river. The runway ran east & west.

I KNOW what the depth is...deepest less than 10' in the middle of the swim pond.. Checked it twice with 2 differant boats and 2 differant depth finders..also an anchor rope for good measure.. Might have been a whole lot deeper years ago but it probably has silted in since.. Stop out there..they will tell you
