garlic doesn't work on my dog, advantage works somewhat but frontline beats everything hands down. forget the copy cat version from Hartz etc... in the store, worthless. flea powders don't kill them all and only help a few days. The collars are worthless. They just chase the fleas to the tail end of the body. I use the flea bombs in the house if needed. It's hard to catch up once they become infested in your carpets.

I use a combination of D.E. (diatomaceous earth - food grade) and then I use Advantage. Just be sure that when you are looking at some of the better flea medicines, you want to make sure that they also are killing the flea eggs as well. I actually just had to purchase some for my animals and one of them (I can't remember which one off hand), did not touch flea eggs.
Plus, please, please stay away from the Hartz and those type of el cheapo flea treatments. In most instances it does not work and on cats usually, it can absolutely throw them into crazy fits. (You can do a simple Google search and find that out).
Also, beware of the "natural" flea drops, as I purchased one that was supposed to be safe for pregnant / nursing cats (I had no intentions of getting any for her, so it was like an impulse buy), but I looked up the reviews and brand info when I got home and it had terrible reviews and the most active ingredient is toxic to cats and should be kept away from cats (peppermint & its oils).
Personally, I tried the PetArmor and it did really good for about 2 weeks, then it pretty much was not as effective. The price was right and worth a shot though.
They do have another one of the generic flea meds, its called Firpoguard Plus (rivals Frontline Plus) but I have not tried it and it is a little bit cheaper than Frontline Plus.
I found a 3 month supply of the Frontline at Menards for $34.99 (not sure if it was a sale or not), but otherwise I go with Brothers or Farm&Fleet because their prices are decent.
But, that is just my experience with it. Hope it helped.

I picked up Frontline at Novak's and put it on the dog and today she is already scratching waaay less. Poor baby is so alergic to flea bites she will literally lick all the fur off her lower back, butt and back of legs. I think they find those areas choice property or something.

I use Advantage II on my cats. I've found the best price online at Drs. Foster and Smith, plus they have free shipping on any flea meds.

We use Comfortis as per the vet at Happy Tails. You have to order it online but it comes in Pill form and it starts killing fleas in less than 30mins. My dog is very allergic to flea bites, to the point where once he is bit his hair starts falling out. This flea medicine has worked 10x better than frontline has for us.
I cant seem to find the website right now because we just buy a years worth at a time. But Im sure if you google "Comfortis" you will find it.
