I found AARP discounts to be pretty worthless unless you want to buy term insurance, car insurance or travel alot. I finally dropped out after being a member since I turned 50.
I got AAA last year & thank goodness I have not had to use it.

I had AARP for one year and never used it. I got it because my husband is over 50, I'm not but because he is a member, I was able to join.
We have had AAA for years and it is the BEST thing ever, especially when it comes to towing! We have the premium AAA which has roadside assistance over 100 miles. Can't tell you how many times they have come to our aid (son at IVCC and even here in Streator when my car broke down!) Also AAA can save you on shopping and especially on hotel rooms! When we went to South Dakota a few years back, I saved almost $300 on our hotel rooms! I now have AAA for every member of my family who drives and that includes my teenager. Love them!

One thing I have found with AARP'S, you receive many reminders your membership is due multiple times per year even when it's not due. We approached the Company and were told they use Telemarketing systems and WE really need to keep track of our own due date of our Subscription. Otherwise we will find our subscription paid up past our Expiration Date. I find this to be WRONG, but we use AARP for travel purposes. They also have a magazine that has many interesting articles in it. Issues on aging, health, benefits, financial planning, etc. I guess I should lay the two out in front of me and check them out side by side and see which will benefit us the most. It sounds like a personal preference and what we already have with our Insurance Company. Thanks for the differences in advice. AND Yes, I'm Over " 50"........ ;D

I thought I was losing my mind with AARP and all the renewal bills I keep getting when we just joined a few months ago! That is one reason why I won't renew. I'm sticking with AAA.
